My flight was cancelled about 12 hours before take-off. No one bothered to call us or e-mail us about it though. My husband & I ended up stranded in ATL until the next day. This made us lose a full day of our vacation; actually more than that if you count how many days we were on the phone with them trying to clear this matter up instead of enjoying our vacation. We have been told by both Spirit Air & Travelocity that we will not be refunded any money for this. They do not offer to get you on another flight. We contacted Travelocity which is who we used to book our trip. The guy from Travelocity tried to phone Spirit Air to straighten this out, but could not get anyone to answer. So then my husband gives the Spirit employee his cell phone so she could talk to the Travelocity guy on his phone. She was very rude to him & informed him she could not help get us on another flight or airline because that was HIS problem and they were a discount airline and did not offer that service. When we finally made it on the plane, we were scared half to death by the pilot who kept swinging us from side to side(I should have known there was something wrong when I saw those flight attendants huddled in prayer before take-off).
When we returned to ATL from our trip, my luggage was lost. However, it wasn’t just mine missing, I soon found myself surrounded by 20 other people with no luggage as well. I happened to be standing right outside the airport police room and eventually a police officer came out to see what we were all talking about. He told us that yesterday, Spirit had taken one planes luggage and put it on the wrong flight or something like that. By this time more people arrived at the police area to report their problems with Spirit Air. We found out that our luggage was taken off the plane in Fort Lauderdale and was there and we could stay at the airport & wait on it for about 5-6 hours. We were then offered, and chose, to have it shipped to us at home, via UPS and it would arrive the next day(funny, I didn’t think UPS ran on Sunday which is tomorrow). Of course, all of our important things such as our kids souveniors & our meds were in the lost bag.
Also, throughout our travel, we heard from numerous people who had such terrible & frightening stories about this airline that it was unbelievable. I blame myself because I should have done more research before flying with them. I have learned a valuable & expensive lesson, you get what you pay for, even with airlines. I would also like to say that the attitudes of every Spirit employee we had to deal with were very uncaring & unprofessional. They never have a manager available, they always say, “they are not here at work yet”. You will also never get anyone to answer their customer service number and if you do, expect a wait of atleast 45 minutes.
Update- I just called Spirit to see if my luggage had arrived in ATL yet. It has not because the flight it is coming on has been delayed. We tried to buy insurance at the counter before our first flight ever took off for this trip. We were told that we had to do that online & they were not allowed to help us with that, only online. I phoned my sister who tried to go online very quickly to purchase it, but she could not find this option on their website and when she phoned Spirit, no one ever answered.
