Mediocre ski area.
Very dishonest in terms of terrain. Advertises vertical at 1180 but really its 880-900. Thats 34% Would you pay for 11.8 gallons of gas when you only get 9.
This is clearly done so that they would appear to have the most vertical in the state (Jiminy advertises at 1150 and IS 1150 — using “Berkshire east marketing math” it should be about 1550). I have researched this extensively and I haven’t found any ski area in New England no matter how big or small which exaggerates its vertical drop by such a large margin. Berkshire east is definitely an outlier in this category.
Terrain is OK, Snowmaking is so-so. All the best terrain is never ever open. Crowds are minimal (this is their saving grace IMO). The drive for Southern New England is better than most of the real mountains, but honestly you can drive an extra 20 minutes north to Mount Snow which has a lot more vertical and a lot better terrain.
Charlemont MA is a dreadful town lost in time so to speak. there is really nothing going on there. Don’t even bother with “downtown” you wont find anything.
There are far better alternatives nearby.
My one suggestion would be only to bother with this area after a significant natural snow fall. Otherwise you will have to deal with their lousy groomed man made snow which isn’t up to snuff. The trade off is there will probably be a bigger crowd doing the same thing as you.
