Camino Real Puerto Vallarta

My husband and I had the distinct pleasure of spending our honeymoon at the Camino Real in Puerto Vallarta. After our wonderful experience and from everything we’ve read about the other hotels in Puerto Vallarta, I strongly recommend the Camino Real to other travelers who are looking for a romantic, quiet, high class place to stay.

From the moment we arrived at the hotel, we knew we had made a perfect choice. The Camino Real is located just south of town (about a 30 peso taxi ride–a few dollars) off a gorgeous road that winds its way between the coast and the jungle-covered cliffs. The grounds are so beautiful and the hotel’s beach is said to be one of the nicest in town.

When we arrived, we were instantly charmed by the friendly staff. They showed us to our room in one of the club towers. If you can afford it, the club towers are really the way to go. The rooms are gorgeous, the view is exquisite, you get to eat a wonderful, free breakfast in a little area down by the beach, and many of the club rooms have private jacuzzis on their porches.

Another reviewer commented on the quality of the toiletries. We noticed this too. The soap and other items were from Crabtree and Evelyn. :) The daily service was impeccable and unobtrusive. The maid would leave little desserts for us each afternoon. We treated ourselves to room service several times during the week and the food and service was wonderful.

On the grounds, there are several delightful restaurants. Because we were there in the late fall (off-season), the Italian Restaurant was closed. We loved Las Brisas, out on the far end of the property–an open air restaurant with a casual atmosphere. My husband still raves about the Marlin Enchiladas. On our last night there, we went to La Perla, one of the highest rated restaurants in all of PV, which happens to be located on the Camino Real property. It was a real experience. The food presentation was amazing and the desserts were wonderful. Mine included carmelized flower petals. :)

Although my husband and I aren’t super active people, we enjoyed the various activities available at the hotel. The beach is great for swimming, boogie boarding, kayaking etc. You can rent pretty much all of the equipment you need at the hotel, although it is a little pricey. The two pools were very nice and the swim-up bar was fun. We didn’t ever try the gym, but it looked pretty nice.

One of my favorite things about the Camino Real was the wonderful breakfasts included with the club rooms. As I said above, there was a special little area for us to eat, down by the beach and secluded from the rest of the hotel. The food ranged from fresh baked sweet breads, to cereal, fresh fruit and juice, yogurt, wonderful made-to-order omlettes, delicious coffee, and other special entrees (I think they had potatoes, beans, various meat dishes and other stuff at the buffet.)

My *only* complaint about the experience was that a big group came in on Friday night and had a fiesta until about 12:30 pm. That wouldn’t be a problem except that it was right below our room and was *really* loud. We needed to get up early the next morning, so we were kind of bummed at not being able to get to bed a little earlier. I actually went down to the front desk to talk to them about it and the staff was very courteous. They didn’t stop the party right away (I’m sure there wasn’t really much they could do about it), but they were at least understanding and it did die down fairly soon after that.

Well, I guess this review has been long enough. I just can’t say enough how much we would recommend this place to other honeymooners and travelers who are looking for a classy place to stay. I’m sure there are many nice hotels in PV, but the Camino Real is the real Grand Dame of them all. You won’t regret staying there! :)
