If you’re in Seattle for a few days and have a car, the MarQueen is a wonderful place to stay. Centrally located in the Queen Anne district, this hotel offers an oasis far enough away from downtown to avoid super touristy people/attitude/scenes, while still close enough to quickly drive to all the popular Seattle spots.
Some Upsides:
*The MarQueen is a gorgeous old brick building.
*Cafe Ladro, Seattle Weekly-rated best coffee house, is right at the foot of the hotel, accessible through the lobby
*The rooms are charming, with hardwood floors, awesome views of the Space Needle, kitchenettes with breakfast nooks, separated living rooms with pull-out couches, and clawfoot tubs
*Valet parking is offered, though is an extra $20 per day. Still, it makes things super easy, since street parking is a bear
*Guests receive a free paper in the morning, as well as a $10 voucher for Cafe Ladro
Some Downsides:
*No elevator
*Noisy HVAC unit
*Windows don’t open all the way
*No toaster
*Street-side rooms are noisy at all times of the day (ask for a room facing the Space Needle!)
*Some of the staff is snooty
Overview:
All in all, staying at the MarQueen was a pleasant experience. It’s almost like having your own studio apartment in Seattle. The rooms definitely do not feel like hotel rooms. They are very unique and have a lot of charm. If you don’t mind stairs, staying on the third floor is preferable because the rooms here have the best views. Most of the staff is professional and accommodating. One guy even brought me my razor which I had left in my car! Some of the employees, however, have an attitude. Free wireless and a decorated, inviting lobby are other bonuses. Also, there is a great Mexican restaurant across the street called Pesos, which serves surprisingly good breakfast.
