An avid scrapper, I attended a scrapbooking crop weekend retreat at this hotel in April 2008. The hotel staff were quite friendly and helpful. Our rooms were clean and comfortable. The well-lit conference room was set up with lots of tables for spreading out our supplies, tools, and projects.
The only issue with the hotel was caused by a plumbing problem in one of the lobby restrooms which were located just down the hall from the conference room. The restroom flooded, resulting in saturated carpet in the hallway and a lingering sewer-like odor that permeated the entire first floor. The only way we could get any relief from the obnoxious odor was to open the windows and exterior doors to the conference room.
When we asked the hotel’s desk clerk if the problem was going to be repaired, he replied their maintenance crew was working on it. Floor dryer fans were set up in the hallways and were running.
After several hours of tolerating the stinky smell, we asked for an update on the situation. A different desk clerk told us they needed to call in a plumber but couldn’t do so until Monday (this conversation took place Saturday mid-morning). I replied that plumbers work on weekends, it just costs more. He said it wasn’t up to him. I asked who was the decision-maker, and could I please speak to that person. He replied he’d try to reach the general manager for me. I never heard from the GM.
A plumber did not arrive for the remainder of the weekend. I checked out and went home earlier than planned because the sewage odor was making me nauseous.
