Mgm Grand Hotel

My girlfriend and I arrived on July 7th for a three night stay. The news articles at the time said Vegas was experiencing the biggest decrease in visitors for the first time in decades. I figured it would be a good time to visit because I’m not a fan crowds. I’ve been to several Vegas Hotels, including New York-New York, Paris, and Mandalay Bay.

We picked MGM because my girlfriend did some research and found some promo codes that brought the room rates down to 79.00 a night with a couple free drinks and a credit for a meal. Wolfgang Pucks restaurant inside the hotel was excellent. Pricey but yummy too. (Sorry, back to the hotel review). The room was average. The bathroom was average with a VERY loud shower-head. I don’t know why it was SO loud but I think it had something to do with building water pressure. The water pressure left something to be desired but wasn’t awful.

When we arrived, the room across from us had what was leftover from the previous nights room-service trays. Those trays were still there over 24 hours later. Kind of gross. After the trays were removed, we ended up with two large bags of trash outside of our room. I don’t know if a guest left it there or it was left there by staff. The bags were gone 15 hours later.

I was dead set on not paying for a stupid raft at the lazy river. I asked everyone at the hotel, from the check in lady to a pit boss on how I could get a complementary raft. I didn’t want to spend $16 x2 for a raft we’d use for 20 mins on the lazy river pool. Everyone said I’d have to ask the people at the pool. The pool staff said I couldn’t get a free raft. No one showed us any love and we got stuck stealing one from a little kid :-). We gave it back 20 mins later.

After spending $30.00 for breakfast, we decided we’d like a refrigerator in our room. We asked for one and were told it would be around $30.00 extra for the convenience. Again, I asked how we could get it for free. No can do. I asked if we could get Internet in the room. Again, an extra fee.

In a time where the numbers are down in Vegas, I’d expect a few more perks for the guests. I know I’m being picky, but when I visit Vegas I usually ask for complementary perks and I usually get them. This hotel showed me no love and for that, I will probably not visit there again. Although I don’t have anything awful to report, I would shop around and see what you can find.

Don’t avoid the Grand, just make sure they are giving you the best possible deal.
