Splendor in the Rockies The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge I have stayed at JPL on two separate occasions, and every time I stay there...

Being newlyweds, I wanted to ensure that we had a care-free honeymoon. I knew the sleepy island of Lanai and the Lodge at Koele would provide a quiet and romantic get-away.
Upon arrival at the airport, the Four Seasons staff at the airport will help you get your luggage into their shuttle and will take you to the Lodge at Koele.
Once you step off the shuttle the staff at the Lodge greets you with a lei for the ladies and a tea-leaf lei for the gentlemen. You’re taken to the high-ceiling, open-air lobby and seated in a comfortable chair while the staff checks you in. Live musicians play traditional Hawaiian music and other popular island style music while you sip complimentary pineapple cider (this is not your ordinary pineapple juice - it’s freshly made by a special process). Once you’re checked in the staff will walk you to your room and answer any questions you may have.
As it was our honeymoon, our room had a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered pineapple slices for us to enjoy. The rooms are warm, spacious, and inviting and with many windows to enjoy the views. The housekeeping staff comes in at least 3 times a day to straighten up and clean. The bed linens are amazing. White as snow and as soft as can be.
The food at the Lodge is exceptional as is the food at it’s sister property on Manele Bay. Food is an art form to these Four Seasons’ chefs. They blend the traditional Hawaiian foods into their dishes with great style.
The food at the these properties can be pricey. To give your wallet a break, try out some of the local places in Lana’i City.
We happened to be guests at the Lodge at the same time Nike had a large group of their top executives for a retreat of some kind. Most of these people were from large cities and had forgotten what “relax” means. They had a hard time on Lana’i. It’s a quiet place where you won’t see, police, night clubs, tall buildings, etc. People truly come to relax and rejuvenate.
My husband and I fully explored the amenities that the Lodge and Lana’i had to offer. Here are just a few of the activities available.
-Surfing: lessons down on the Bay
-Hiking: there are hiking trails within walking distance of the Lodge
-Cycling: people love to cycle around this island…after all it’s quite small.
-Archery
-Sporting Clays
-Horseback riding
-Croquet
-Lawn bowling
-Golf: 2 courses
-Snorkeling
-Scuba
-Off-roading
And I could go on. My husband and I spent several afternoons down at Manele Bay. After a quick shuttle ride, we sat on the beach for the afternoon and enjoyed the sun and some snorkeling. The beach staff will set out a chair and umbrella for you with towels. The snorkel equipment is free.
You can rent a jeep from the only rental car company on the island and check out the unpaved roads. Since most of the island’s roads are unpaved this is a great way to see the island….just don’t get stuck in deep mud like we did!! A local islander pulled us out.
The golfing is spectacular. While the fees are high, its worth it to experience and view the beautiful scenery. We tried out the The Challenge course which is down by the Bay. You need to go to the Four Seasons website to see the pictures of the courses to understand what I mean. I think we spent more time taking pictures than golfing that day. The pro-shop staff is friendly and has Callaway clubs as their standard rental clubs. You also receive a box of balls with your rental.
The hiking can be pretty fun. My husband likes to veer of the trails but I survived. At the end of a popular hike that begins near the Lodge, youll see spectacular views of Maui and Molokai.
The time we spent there will always be remembered fondly. There were no bothers and no cares. We enjoyed the Lodges game rooms, and croquet courts, and orchid greenhouse. We spent hours exploring the exceptionally manicured grounds of the Lodge. Its just beautiful.
If you are looking for a place to relax and step away from the commercialism of some of the other islands, come here for a quiet vacation. I cannot say enough.
Forget all about planning. No need for schedules and rental cars. Just enjoy!
