Splash Mountain is one of the most famous rides at Disneyland. It’s one that they use in a lot of their advertisements. After seeing it advertised, I knew I had to get on this ride. As you enter Bear Country you see the big drop that is part of this ride right away. This drop is what makes the ride so thrilling, and possibly too scarry for some children. Most people see the drop and want to get on the ride.
Waiting in Line
If you are not 40′ or taller, not in good health, pregnant, or don’t want to get wet then you should not even attempt to stand in the line. It will be a good waste of time when you get to the front and realize that you are not allowed on.
As you wait in the line, which is normally quite long, you will pass through a barn and a cave. The song “Zip A Dee Do Dah” will be continaully playing. The Line is not really entertaining, but kind of cute. Fast Passes are also available and definately recommended, because you will get to cut through a part of the line and have less of a wait.
Loading
As you load, you will be seated into logs. (not really but they appear to be logs). You sit single file, which may make young children uncomfortable, and the seats are very uncomfortable. There is no seat belt on the ride either. It’s not really needed, but may make some people feel unsafe going down the big hill.
The Thrill of the Ride
The ride starts out slow and smooth as you travel in your log through canals. They are guided on a rollercoaster track, but move very slowly. You pass through caves and cute scenes with Brer Rabbit, Brer Bear and small opposums. Also, other bear town characters are seen throughout the ride. The song Zip A Dee Doo Dah continues to play and you think you are on a smooth, happy ride.
All the sudden it’s not so smooth and happy anymore. You are guided up the hill to the enormous drop off. It’s really scarry at the first because you just whoosh down and it’s quite high. But once you get to the bottom you will be saying that you had so much fun you want to go on the ride again.
After the drop it’s slows down again for a minute and then you are done. I felt that it was a short ride for the length of the line that you normally have to wait in, but it’s really fun!
There is an added bonus-Disneyland employees snap a picture of you as you are going down the enormous drop. After you are off the ride you can view your photo and decide if you want to buy it. It makes a great souvineer! Me and my family bought one for sure.
