It seems to me that I’m getting older. I mean, I know I’m getting older, we all do, each and every day. But I find myself falling into patterns. I’ve made the trip between my home in Northern Virginia to Orlando or points south of there so many times that there’s little mystery as to where to stop for the night should we choose to do that. For example, I’ve found myself pulling into the parking lot of the Comfort Inn and Suites in Walterboro, South Carolina multiple times.
I never imagined that I’d be returning to the Jameson Inn in Ormond Beach, Florida. The first time I stayed there, the trip was way out of the norm with it taking us three full days of driving to get to Boca Raton thanks to accidents, congestion and a sick child. Ormond Beach just isn’t that far north of our destination so I just never imagined returning.
Never say never because I found myself pulling into the parking lot again at this establishment too. A combination of leaving early in the morning and almost deserted roads the entire way southbound found us contemplating a place to stay for the night when we were about an hour north of Daytona. Since we were actually heading to Orlando for another visit with the Mouse, we thought about staying on property if they had any last minute vacancies. One phone call to Disney immediately stopped those thoughts - $249 for a night at the All-Star Sports Resort? No thanks! My husband and I decided we’d just stop again in Ormond Beach if they had rooms available as we’d only have about a half hour to drive in the morning.
The Jameson Inn in Ormond Beach is a pretty nice place. It seems new, is well maintained and is comfortable. It’s about the same class of service you’d find at a Hampton Inn for a lesser price.
The standard rooms are a little small without much spare space. Right now, our kids think it’s fun and a special treat to get to sleep in a sleeping bag so whenever we travel by car, we toss a couple into the trunk. This way, my husband and I can get plenty of room in a king or queen sized bed and they get to sleep on the floor. There was just enough room to spread out both sleeping bags but there was no other floor space. In order to get to the bathroom, one of the kids would have to get up. This isn’t a room in which you’d want to spend a week’s vacation but it was perfectly adequate for the night and wonderfully clean and tidy.
I’m just guessing that the premium rooms probably have more space but we didn’t stay in one of those. Those also offer a refrigerator, microwave and a coffee maker.
Continental breakfast is offered at this hotel at no additional charge. There were Belgian waffles, juices, bagels, pastries, cereals and fresh fruits and yogurts. I found it more than sufficient for our needs. There’s also free Internet access at a computer off the lobby where you can print out airline boarding passes or look up directions.
There was a nice sized outdoor pool where I took my older daughter swimming during one of our two stays. She really enjoyed having the small pool to herself. I liked the attention paid to the landscaping around the pool because usually, it’s just a pool surrounded by concrete. It was a nice touch. There’s also a small fitness area.
I really liked the Ormond Beach Jameson Inn and would consider staying here again should my travels take me this way in the future. The only drawback would be my daughters’ need for a bed of their own as they get older. Since my husband is 6′5, he simply doesn’t fit on a double/full bed (and definitely not if he is sharing it) and needs a queen or a king.
