The Tomorrowland Transit Authority (TTA) is a fun little ride in the Tomorrowland section of Walt Disney World. It gives the rider a good view of most of Tomorrowland and it’s attractions. It is a relaxing and easy ride for the entire family.
The Ride
There is basically never any wait at this ride. It is a continuous motion ride and loads pretty quickly plus since it is not that thrilling, many people skip it. I say you should give it a try because it is cute and a good chance to catch your breath. This ride does not offer FastPass but it is also not necessary.
You ride the “moving sidewalks” uphill to the station. There is move moving sidewalk at the loading point of the ride. You step onto the ride directly from the moving sidewalk. The ride never stops so you must step quickly and make sure that your children do the same. It’s not hard to do but a little extra caution is helpful. I saw one young child trip and scrape a knee and although he was not hurt much and did make it onto the ride just fine, it didn’t have to happen at all.
The ride is several cars attached together. Each car holds about 4 people though if you had an extra little one, I’m sure they’d be able to fit as well. There are about 6 cars in each grouping and it sort of looks like a train attached together. In fact, my son called it a “choo choo” and was VERY happy to ride this ride. There is just a small space between each group of cars so that they are loaded continuously.
The train starts out at Rocket Tower Plaza, the only loading and unloading station. It travels throughout Tomorrowland and one can view the different rides and attractions here. My daughter’s favorite part was when the TTA moved through Space Mountain. While she was too scared to ride Space Mountain, she liked getting a chance to get a glimpse of it. One glimpse reassured her that her decision not to ride it was a good one!
In addition to this, riders of the TTA get to see a model city that Walt Disney had proposed. It was actually the original idea of EPCOT (Experimental Prototype City of Tomorrow) which was a real city and not a theme park. It was neat to see the model city.
All through your ride, the announcer announces futuristic types of things. It is a fun little spiel and gives the riders ideas of what to look at as well as superfluous details that make the ride cute!
A bit of History
If you were in Disney World before 1994, you may have seen this ride under a different name. It was called the WEDway PeopleMover. It rode along the same track but had a different announcer. It was changed to the Tomorrowland Transit Authority to mesh with the refurbishment of the entire Tomorrowland. The biggest differences were some paint and a new “announcer” during the ride.
Recommendations
I would recommend a ride on the TTA. It is relaxing and a good chance to cool off on a hot day. You feel the nice breeze as your car drives along at an easy pace. This ride is perfect for all ages and it makes a nice break during the day. My son really liked it because he thought it was a train so this was perfect. It’s just a nice little ride that you shouldn’t miss!
